Children—at all stages of development—are perhaps the most fragile and vulnerable patients in the health care system. Health Care Unlimited’s Pediatric Services takes special care to identify, hire and train its pediatric nurses and attendants. Understanding the important role nurses and attendants play in treating pediatric patients, HCU takes great pride in having the right staff for the right patient.
From newborns to teenagers, pediatric patients are constantly changing. Unlike adults, pediatric patients need to have their treatment plans adjusted frequently as they reach different stages of physical, emotional and cognitive development. HCU pediatric nurses are aware of the variety of changes they will encounter with any of their patients and how this may impact their medications and treatment plans.
Because pediatric patients often cannot adequately voice or explain their symptoms and feelings, HCU pediatric nurses learn to anticipate changes. HCU pediatric nurses help doctors stay in a proactive mode and avoid serious problems before they happen.
Adriana Muro, a graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American with a degree in Nursing and a background in accounting, has over 28 years of nursing experience. She has 18 years of Neonatal-Pediatric Critical Care experience in a hospital setting where she was very active as a Charge Nurse, Transport Team Leader and Nursing Standards Committee Member. Another 13 years in pediatric Home Care gives Adriana the depth of experience and skills necessary to serve as Director of Pediatrics at Health Care Unlimited.
Pediatric Home Health Care also known as Pediatric Skilled Intermittent Service is characterized as a service in which a skilled health care professional such as a Registered Nurse (RN) and others listed below, visit the patient’s home to provide periodic (intermittent) care for a short timeframe. These “skilled” visits serve as part of a health care intervention regimen designed to help stabilize and monitor the patient with the expectation of returning them to an independent lifestyle where he/she or their caregiver(s) can continue to manage their care under the supervision of their physician.
Our Pediatric home care team work to help children reach their maximum potential for clinical and skilled care independence. They focus on long-term and skilled chronic or post-acute care, medical illness, diseases, and conditions where skilled nursing procedures may need to be performed in the home and/or taught to a family or caregiver.

Pediatric private duty services in the home care setting are characterized by long-term care needs of children or families. These services can be paid privately or covered under insurance plans. Pediatric nurses need effective assessment skills. They must know the differences in development from newborn to adolescents. Our nurses are compassionate and empathetic, sensitive to patient’s needs, and be able to teach parents. Nurses also provide follow-up information to parents for oxygen use and nebulizer treatments. HCU pharmacists can provide any special IVs and drugs a patient needs.
Children born with birth defects, which are manageable but not curable, often require tracheal tubes and feeding tubes. Many might not have survived years ago, including premature babies born at 24-to-26 weeks. Even as they are born with abnormalities, these children’s life expectancy is much longer. Their quality of life is so much better thanks to the continuum of care HCU pediatric nurses provide as they coordinate with doctors, hospitalists and other primary caregivers.
