HCU Adult Care Overview

Whether recovering from an accident, a surgical procedure or treating a medical condition, more and more adults 18 to 55 are utilizing home health benefits. Our health care system is constantly under social and financial pressure to move patients through the health care system faster, help them regain their independence and place the patient back in their home. Home care makes this even more possible today.

The focus of home care is to help the patient and family transition to the home environment and provide supplemental and, in some cases, reeducation of important elements of their hospital education they may have missed.

What to Expect

Studies have shown that recovery occurs faster in the home. Within 48 hours of being released from the hospital, a trained Health Care Unlimited licensed professional will come to your home and conduct a thorough assessment. It will assist us to better take care of you or your loved ones.

Family Involvement

The family is an important part of your recovery, and Health Care Unlimited teaches them procedures and techniques to help you manage your condition and, in some cases, improve your recovery.

Adult Home Health Care

Adult Home Health Care also known as Skilled Intermittent Service is characterized as a service in which a skilled health care professional such as a Registered Nurse (RN) and others listed below, visit the patient’s home to provide periodic (intermittent) care for a short timeframe. The “skilled” visits serve as part of a health care regimen designed to help stabilize and monitor the patient with the expectation of returning them to the independent lifestyle where he/she or their caregiver(s) can continue to manage their care under the supervision of their physician.

Our home care team work to help the patient reach their maximum potential for clinical and skilled care independence. They focus on long-term and skilled chronic or post-acute care, medical illness, diseases, and conditions where skilled nursing procedures may need to be performed in the home and/or taught to a family or caregiver.

Adult Private Duty Services

What are Adult Private Duty Services?

Adult Private Duty services in the home care setting are characterized by long-term care needs of adults or families. These services can be paid privately or covered under insurance plans. Skill level can range from “sitter services” provided by a personal attendant to 24-hour skilled nursing care provided to an adult patient by registered nurses (RNs).

Nurses need effective assessment skills. They must know the differences associated with the changes that an illness or chronic condition brings. Our nurses are compassionate and empathetic, sensitive to patient’s needs, and be able to teach family members and caregivers. Nurses also provide critical information to physicians for any ongoing treatments. Additionally, HCU pharmacists can provide any special IVs and drugs a patient needs.

Adult patients with chronic conditions, which are manageable but not curable, often require tracheal tubes and feeding tubes. Both the patient and their caregivers find that it is impossible to manage such care without an extra set of helpful hands from a professional nursing team. The quality of life for the patient is so much better thanks to the continuum of care HCU nurses provide as they coordinate with doctors, hospitalists and other primary caregivers.
