MDCP is a waiver program administered by the Texas Department of Health. It works to provide families with support services they may need in order to care for medically involved children and young adults, as a cost-effective alternative to a nursing care facility. MDCP provides a variety of services to qualified children that allow them to live at home.
The MDCP provides a variety of services to support family caring for children who are medically dependent and to discourage children from going into nursing homes. The goal is to support community and family inclusion of medically dependent children, to remain cost neutral, and promote permanency planning for MDCP children.
Services include:
- Respite
- This service provides the primary caregiver temporary relief from care of a waiver participant during times when the caregiver would normally provide the care
- Adjunct Services
- This diverse array of approved individualized, disability-related services support:
- Participation in childcare
- Participation in post-secondary education
- Independent living
- Minor Home Modifications
- This includes physical modification to a participant’s home, which is necessary to prevent institutionalization or to support deinstitutionalization.
- Examples include:
- Ramps
- Doorway Widening
- Bathroom Modifications
- Adaptive Aids
- These devices are necessary to treat, rehabilitate, prevent or compensate for conditions resulting in disability or loss of function.
- These may include:
- Van or vehicle lifts
- Environmental control units (voice activated light switches)
- Other medically necessary and appropriate adaptive aids not covered by other source
CCP is an extension of the regular Texas Health Steps Program (EPSDT) that provides any federally allowable Medicaid services (not covered by the regular state Medicaid plan) that are medically necessary and appropriate to Medicaid-eligible children younger than 21. CCP provides a wide variety of services including private-duty nursing and durable medical equipment.
Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN)
